About Dende a Nada

Dende a Nada is an international theatre and performing arts festival based in Cedeira, Galicia.

At its heart is a belief in the value of making theatre — not only in the finished work we see on stage, but in the process that comes before it.

Theatre begins with something small: an idea, an image, a movement, a story, a question. Through play, experimentation and collaboration, that starting point can become something that didn’t exist before.

Dende a Nada — from nothing — is about creating a space for that process to happen.

Making and sharing

Each year, the festival brings together local and visiting artists, practitioners and participants through workshops, performances, screenings and conversations.

The workshops are central to Dende a Nada. Artists share practices developed through their own professional work and invite others to experience them first-hand — to move, play, experiment and create.

Guided by experienced practitioners, people of different ages, backgrounds and levels of experience are encouraged to take creative risks, try unfamiliar approaches and discover abilities and ideas they may not have known were there.

Alongside the workshops, performances and screenings allow audiences to encounter the artists’ work and the ideas and practices behind it.

Artists and Cedeira

Dende a Nada grew from many years of making and touring devised and physical theatre, and from the relationships built with artists along the way. These connections allow us to invite artists whose work we know and admire to spend time in Cedeira and share their practice with others.

Cedeira offers something in return: a place for visiting artists to step away from everyday professional pressures, spend time with other practitioners, experiment and reconnect with their own creative practice.

Over time, we hope these encounters can build lasting relationships between visiting artists, Galician practitioners and people in Cedeira and the surrounding area.

Growing from here

Dende a Nada began in 2024 and is intended to grow slowly, year by year.

Our ambition is not simply to make the festival bigger, but to deepen its roots — creating more opportunities for people to experience making theatre, encouraging new and younger participants, involving more Galician artists and building a continuing theatrical presence in Cedeira.

As one of Hilo Studio’s continuing projects, we hope Dende a Nada can contribute to that growth while remaining a place for experimentation, exchange and discovery.

A place where theatre can be seen, but also somewhere it can be made.

Dende a Nada is organised by Hilo Studio with the support of the Concello de Cedeira.
